Melton Market prides itself on being one of the largest auction centres of sheep in the country and certainly the largest outside the Welsh borders and north of England. With permanent penning for 6,500 sheep and a throughput for several weeks of the year at capacity, Melton is the envy of its competitors. Our reputation as 'Englands Premier Sheep Auction' is deserved.
Prime Lambs
With one complete side of the building devoted entirely to unloading docks, queuing is not an issue at Melton Market, whether you have 6 lambs or 300 to sell. They are quickly sorted and weighed, prior to penning, in batches up to 20 per lot. Our dedicated team of staff, many of whom are sheep farmers, will draw your lambs to meet our buyers requirements. After the sale you can draw your payment on the day. While any sheep stopping overnight will be watered, fed and bedded in our lairage facility.
Cull Ewes
As with pure lambs we offer the very best of service for your barren breeding sheep. These sales are also very well attended, with buyers from all over England regularly attending.
Finished sheep
The sale of Cull Ewes and Finished Lambs is on Tuesdays.

Breeding Sheep
Our seasonal sales of breeding sheep are the envy of our competitors and rival any of the famous northern sales for quality & price. Many farmers, who annually buy the very best of Mule Gimmers in Yorkshire, routinely sell their Theaves through Melton, with in excess of 1,000 head bead being offered on a weekly basis during September & October. After this we offer a steady supply of in-lamb sheep, until lambing time. The pens are then full well into May with ewes & lambs at foot.
Store Lambs
From mid July, store lambs feature very prominently in our sales schedule. By the time we get to late October we will be handling close to 3,000 store lambs every Tuesday. Many of these will later come back as finished.
Sale time 12.00 noon
